We replaced an Amana unit with the LG that claimed to be the quietest on the market. It is definitely quieter and we have had it installed for two weeks, running every day, however it is not quiet by any means. There is some type of groan towards shut down that lasts for about 10-15 seconds. It also runs more than the Amana did which I'm sure will result in higher electrical bills. The oil, a part of Freon makes most plastics parts brittle and replace indoor unit. This situation is a subject of recall, however, the company avoids ruining the company name offering free replacement parts for long period. I have repair three pin holes in one indoor unit. Ran unit Feb. 1 2016 heating very good super quiet, very please with it. Now waiting to run in cooling mode to see how it controls hot weather. I'll give it a 10 rating for now.
